Title: Shadow of a Dream
Author: Honorat
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Jack/Pearl
Disclaimer: Puts a chill in the bones how many honest writers have been claimed by this franchise.
Summary: I discovered these 300+ words somewhere on my hard drive, and the Black Pearl Sails prompt for this week, Black Pearl, seemed to be a good use for them. This somewhat fits in with my If Ships Could Speak series. CotBP compatible.

Much thanks to geekmama for the beta read.

Are there any other cabins on these ships besides the captain and crew quarters?

I purchased the book The Lore of Ships off of Ebay. It has a lot of good illustrations showing the different parts of ships, the ropes, fish, carpenter's tools, etc. It covers all types of ships from old to modern. I think it's worth getting ahold of if you are interested in ships.

Anyway, here are two pages which might be helpful for the authors out there:

I found these while researching ships' decks.

This site has information about tactics, sails, copper sheathing, etc. It may be a pop-up heavy, though.

This cute little story works in a lot of sailing terms, which you can click for a definition. The time period is a little late, but it probably still works for POTC.

Is the upper stern deck on the Black Pearl called a quarterdeck, or a poop deck? Or maybe both?

Text-Book of Seamanship, an updated age of sail textbook from 1891. I'm sure it's not all applicable to 18th century, but the basics of sailing probably didn't change.
